How to Edit a PDF Online
Upload your PDF
Drop the file above or click to browse. The editor analyzes it instantly and tells you honestly what can be edited.
Edit directly on the page
Double-click any text to rewrite it in place. Add text, images and signatures, highlight or strike out passages, cover content, draw shapes, rotate pages.
Review your changes
Move and resize anything with drag handles. Undo and redo freely — nothing is final until you export.
Export and download
Preview the finished PDF before downloading. The output stays fully searchable — pages are never turned into images.
What the PDF Editor Can Do
QuickyDesk’s PDF editor works entirely in your browser — no installation, no account, no watermark. It is a genuine content editor, not a form-filler: you can change the text that is already in the document, not just draw on top of it.
- Edit existing text — double-click a line and type. The original characters are removed from the page and your replacement is written in their place, using the document’s own font whenever possible.
- Move & resize text — select any line, drag it anywhere on the page, or use the corner handles to scale it.
- Add text, images & signatures — place new content anywhere; signatures can be drawn with a mouse, trackpad or finger, in any ink color.
- Annotate — highlight, underline, strikethrough and sticky notes, written into the exported PDF as real annotations.
- Cover & shapes — hide content with a colored rectangle or add filled shapes.
- Organize — rotate pages, jump between pages with thumbnails, find text across the document.
When to Use Edit PDF
- Fixing a typo in an invoice or contract — correct a name, date or amount without going back to the original Word or accounting file.
- Updating recurring documents — change the date and reference number on a template you re-issue every month.
- Signing agreements — draw your signature once and place it on the signature line, then export a clean signed copy.
- Reviewing documents — highlight key clauses, strike out rejected passages and leave sticky notes for colleagues.
- Preparing documents to share — cover personal details like phone numbers before sending a document onwards (note: covering hides content visually; for legally secure redaction use dedicated redaction software).
- Filling documents without form fields — add text on top of any PDF, even when it was never built as a fillable form.
How Editing Works at QuickyDesk
- Your PDF is uploaded over an encrypted HTTPS connection and analyzed: page count, fonts, whether text is real or scanned.
- Every edit you make is kept as a change layered over the original — the file on our server is not modified while you work.
- When you export, the original characters of each edited line are removed with a text-only operation that leaves table borders, lines and images untouched, and your new text is written in their place.
- If the document’s embedded font cannot render your new characters, the closest standard font is used — and the editor tells you before you export, never silently.
- The exported PDF keeps a real text layer: it stays selectable, searchable and copyable. Pages are never flattened to images.
- Uploaded files and exports are deleted from our servers automatically within 15 minutes.
Honest Limitations
- Scanned PDFs — pages that are photographs of paper contain no text to edit. You can still add text, annotations and covers on top, but OCR is not currently offered.
- Line-based editing — each line of text edits independently. Making a line much longer will not reflow the paragraph below it, just like most online PDF editors.
- Fonts — when a document’s font isn’t embedded or can’t render your characters, the closest standard font is substituted and flagged. The result is close, but not always pixel-identical.
- Complex scripts — right-to-left and complex scripts (Arabic, Hebrew, Devanagari) are not fully supported for editing existing text.
- Password-protected PDFs — remove the password first, then edit.
File Requirements
- File format: PDF only

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I really change the existing text, or just cover it?
You really change it. Double-click a line and type — the original characters are removed from the PDF’s content stream on export and your text is inserted in their place. It is not a white box pasted on top: table borders and background graphics that touch the text are preserved.
Will the font match the original?
Whenever the document uses a standard font, or its embedded font can render your new characters, the original font is kept. Otherwise the closest standard font (Helvetica, Times, Courier families) is used, and the editor labels the edit “font approximated” before you export — you are never surprised by the output.
Is the exported PDF still searchable?
Yes. Pages are never rasterized to images. Text you edited, added or kept remains a real text layer that you can select, copy and search in any PDF reader.
Can I edit a scanned PDF?
Not the scanned text itself — a scan is a picture of a page, so there are no characters to edit. The editor tells you this upfront when it analyzes your file. You can still add new text, signatures, highlights and covers on top of the scan.
Is the Cover tool the same as redaction?
No, and we say so honestly: covering draws an opaque rectangle over content so it is no longer visible, but the text underneath remains inside the file and could be extracted. For legally sensitive redaction, use dedicated redaction software that strips the underlying content.
What happens to my file after editing?
Uploads and exports are automatically and permanently deleted from our servers within 15 minutes by a background process. Your edits live only in your browser session while you work.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. The editor is touch-first: tap to select, drag to move, use the handles to resize, and draw your signature with a finger. The toolbar docks to the bottom of the screen on phones.
Is there a watermark or a page limit?
No watermark, no trial banner, no page limit beyond the 50 MB file size cap. The editor is free.
